The
2003 Equine Photographers' Network Fall Retreat in Vermont
This
September the place to be for EPNet members was Middlebury, Vermont.
The fall retreat in the picturesque mountain region offered opportunities
for networking, support and of course, equine photography! Led
by experienced Morgan photographer, Suzy Lucine, (click
here to read Suzy's bio!) members photographed Morgans
in hand, under saddle, driving and at liberty. With wonderful
lodgings, incredible food, a manageable bevy of photo opportunities
and of course amenable companions, the stage is set for creative
energy to flow at an EPNet Retreat.
For those who arrived early, Shelburne Farms, a historic museum
and farmstead offered a point of focus and history to boot! The
variety of animals and activities filled the few hours before
the retreat group officially met at the Dog Team Tavern for a
Welcome Dinner.
Wasting no
time, the next morning found the members enjoying an early breakfast
before heading out for a day of shooting. Though the day was very
windy, everyone made the best of it and gave the pretty pasture
pals at Absolute Morgans owned by Janet Yager lots of attention.
Janet also showed her horses in hand and performed reining and
western pleasure. After lunch and a walk through a local famer's
market, we headed to the historic UVM Morgan Horse Farm in Weybridge
for a tour and of course more photo opportunities. In partnership
with the University of Vermont, the farm focuses on improving
the Morgan breed and public exhibitions. After demonstrations
in driving and English pleasure, we turned our cameras to a Morgan
at liberty to complete the day's shooting.
Our
time together was filled with critiquing the previous day's work,
discussing various facets of a photographer's work flow and of
course enjoying that special brand of camaraderie that occurs
when like-minded individuals come together. Yet another successful
retreat for the EPNet proves that no matter how much time they
have, when EPNet members gather, fabulous things can happen!
